Kumtor case: Criminal investigations did not affect company's work

The ongoing criminal investigations against former employees of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC did not affect the work of the company. Kumtor President Almaz Baryktabasov announced at a meeting of the Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Subsoil Use and Industrial Policy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

Deputy Emil Toktoshev asked about the fate of the former management of the gold mining enterprise. «What happened to them? Did the investigative measures affect the company’s work?» he asked.

Almaz Baryktabasov responded that the investigation of criminal cases filed against individual company managers is ongoing.

«But they don’t work for the company now. Working with investigators was difficult in the beginning. Then the parties came to an understanding. We provided information in a timely manner. To prevent the investigation from negatively affecting the work of the enterprise, we went there ourselves sometimes,» the president of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC said.

It was reported in September that the criminal case against the former external manager of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC Tengiz Bolturuk was suspended. He and Ryspek Toktogulov were previously removed from all positions the held. It was reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office began a detailed check. It resulted in three criminal cases with preliminary damage to the state of 1 billion soms. As a result, the former external manager of Kumtor was detained and placed in the remand center of the State Committee for National Security in October 2022. Tengiz Bolturuk himself does not admit his guilt. He stated that all the accusations were false.

Tengiz Bolturuk and other defendants in the criminal case on corruption paid 844,512,858 soms.
