Kyrgyzstan and Japan plan to work on reduction of air pollution

Issues of cooperation in the framework of the project to reduce air pollution in Kyrgyzstan and its impact on public health were discussed in Bishkek. The Republican Center for Health Promotion and Mass Communication reported.

According to its data, the event was attended by representatives of the International Medical Faculty of the Osh State University, the Department of Public Health of the International Higher School of Medicine, the Department of Global Health Promotion of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (Japan), the Hydrometeorological Service, the E-health Center and the Republican Center for Health Promotion and Mass Communication.

Participants noted that air pollution is an environmental cause of the diseases that cause 12 percent of all deaths worldwide.

The center added that together with representatives of participating teams from Kyrgyzstan and Japan, it is planned to develop a strategy to combat air pollution in urban environments. The parties intend to develop a system of air pollution assessment based on satellite data and regional chemical-transport modeling, as well as establish a center for air pollution research (IRCAPS) on the basis of the Osh State University.

«In the future, as noted, IRCAPS and Japanese researchers will jointly develop and conduct an assessment on the impact of air pollution on health using information from the modernized national air pollution monitoring system and the E-health Сenter under the Ministry of Health,» the republican center added.

The data collected will serve as a basis for developing recommendations for interested organizations and agencies to improve air quality and reduce adverse impacts on public health, the environment and the economy.
