State Duma proposes to ban citizens of Kyrgyzstan from working as drivers

The State Duma of Russia proposes to ban citizens of Kyrgyzstan from working as drivers in the Russian Federation. A draft law has been submitted, which stipulates the right to work as a driver only with Russian driver’s licenses. The document was posted on the portal of regulatory legal acts.

The explanatory note to the document says that the current Law on Road Safety allows citizens of Kyrgyzstan and countries where the Russian language is recognized as official to work as a bus or taxi driver. However, the drafters of the document propose to exclude such a provision from the law. Thus, in the near future it will be allowed to work as a driver solely on the basis of Russian driver’s licenses without any alternative.

In addition, the authors of the initiative stressed in the explanatory note that the most frequent perpetrators of road accidents are citizens of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
