TikTok ban: Social media sends letter to Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan

Management of TikTok social media app sent a letter to the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan in response to a request to block the platform in the country. Tattu Mambetalieva, head of the Civil Initiative of Internet Policy Public Foundation, told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, the social media has not received any complaints about their work. TikTok representatives are ready to discuss complaints about its work with Kyrgyz officials. TikTok is open to dialogue, especially since there have been no complaints from Kyrgyzstan about its work before.

«The Ministry of Culture received the letter on August 30, 2023, immediately after the ministry announced its intention to block the platform. There is no answer to it yet,» Tattu Mambetalieva said.

It was reported earlier that taking into account the appeals and after the monitoring, the Ministry of Culture decided to terminate the operation of TikTok service in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The decision was sent to the Ministry of Digital Development for further execution within the framework of the country’s legislation.
