Rare species of vultures discovered in Kyrgyzstan

Employees of NABU-Kyrgyzstan recorded a rare and endangered bird species — black vulture (Aegypius monachus), included in the Endangered Species List of the Kyrgyz Republic. The organization reported on Facebook.

«In early June, specialists from the monitoring department of NABU-Kyrgyzstan carried out important work to study wildlife in Chui region, Kemin district, Suuluu-Terek tract. As a result of visual observation, nine species of birds were recorded, among which one species — the black vulture (Aegypius monachus) — is included in the Endangered Species List of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«This is a very important discovery for specialists and wildlife enthusiasts, as the black vulture is a rare and endangered species. It lives in mountainous areas and deserts, and is also on the list of critically endangered species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN),» the statement says.

It is noted that the staff of the monitoring department will continue their work and will monitor the state of wildlife in the area. Such research helps to preserve the richness and diversity of the animal world of Kyrgyzstan, as well as to identify problems and threats that may affect the ecological situation in the region.
