Deputies elected a new member of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan at a meeting of Parliament on Thursday.
Mekenchil deputy group nominated Altynbek Kubatbekov, Eldik deputy group — Kalysbek Boronbaev, Yntymak faction — Mirlan Konurbaev.
Eldik and Yntymak withdrew their nominees before the voting procedure. As a result, deputies unanimously supported the candidacy of Altynbek Kubatbekov.
Deputies agreed to dismissal of Akylbek Eshimov, a member of the Central Election Commission, from his post at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on May 31. Yntymak, Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan factions together with Mekenchil and Eldik deputy groups nominated their candidates.
Akylbek Eshimov was detained in September 2021. According to investigators, the CEC member in collusion with one of the leaders of Kyrgyzstan political party in June 2020 received $ 550,000 from the applicant in order to be included in the top five candidates for deputies from the political organization in the parliamentary elections scheduled for autumn 2020.
Having failed to fulfill the taken obligations, he and one of the leaders of the party returned $300,000 to A.D., and embezzled $250,000. Later, the Pervomaisky District Court of the capital acquitted Akylbek Eshimov for lack of corpus delicti.
On May 11, the Bishkek City Court convicted the former CEC member. He was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to three years of probation supervision.
