Bishkek City Hall plans to introduce differentiated drinking water tariff

Bishkek City Hall plans to introduce a differentiated tariff for drinking water. Deputy head of the capital Zhyrgalbek Shamyraliev told at a briefing.

According to him, such a measure will allow regulating water consumption in the future.

«If a person consumes water within the established norm — 170 liters per person per day, then the tariff will not change. If more, then the rate may increase. It is like with electricity. If the consumer consumes up to 700 kilowatts, then the tariff is one, if more — then another. The existing water consumption rate is sufficient to use it for domestic needs. But we see its irrational use, people just turn it on and water their gardens,» he said.

Zhyrgalbek Shamyraliev did not voice the exact date of introduction of the new tariff. According to him, a public discussion will be held on this issue.

Recall, due to lack of water in the capital, private saunas, car washes and swimming pools are temporarily closed, which consume a large amount of water. In addition, temporary restrictions have been imposed on the supply of drinking water to Archa-Beshik residential area and Selektsionnoye, 105th Kontur, Salkyn-Tor, Nizhny Orok, Sary-Ozon, Plodovoe and Kaltar villages. Raids are regularly held to prevent irrigation of the adjoining land plots and gardens with drinking water during the daytime.
