Bishkek to host International Book Fair

Bishkek will host the International Book Fair with the participation of authors, book publishers and large chains of bookstores from the CIS countries and China on April 27. Acting head of the Department for Preservation of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan Rinat Bakeyev told.

According to him, the exhibition site will be organized near the monument to Kurmanjan Datka. The event will start at 10 a.m. Visitors will be able to buy their favorite books at the fair, participate in master classes, look at the stars through a telescope and experience virtual reality.

Arrival of authors and publishers from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and China is planned. The book exhibition will be organized by the Republican Library for Children and Youth named after Kasymaly Bayalinov in cooperation with USAID.

«Different venues will be prepared for citizens and guests of the capital of all ages. Within the framework of events dedicated to the World Book Day, a conference will be held in the capital’s library named after Alykul Osmonov. Awards will also be presented to authors and publishers of books in the Malachite Hall of the Abdylas Maldybaev Theater as part of the annual competition «The Art of the Book,» Rinat Bakeyev said.

In 1995, as part of a mission to expand cooperation between states and peoples, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed April 23 the World Book and Copyright Day.
