Four employees of Health Ministry detained for taking bribes

A corruption scheme for the illegal issuance of sanitary and epidemiological conclusions for the import of goods and products into Kyrgyzstan was revealed at the Ministry of Health of the country. Press center of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported.

«The head of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise Division of the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the ministry, colluding with the department’s employees, created a corruption scheme for issuing sanitary and epidemiological conclusions to customs brokers in a short time without observing the necessary procedures and conducting examinations.

Dozens of facts of receiving bribes for issuing conclusions on hundreds of different goods and products subject to certification have been revealed.

The organizer of the scheme came to the workplace once a week only to receive her share of the funds collected,» the statement says.

The SCNS notes the insufficient control by the management of the department and the Ministry of Health over the activities of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise Division and its employees.

Such actions by the officials of the Ministry of Health pose a threat to the health of the country’s population and undermine the economic security of the state.

As part of the criminal case, four employees of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise Division were detained and placed in the pretrial detention center 1 in Bishkek. Involvement of the leadership of the Ministry of Health in the corruption scheme is being established.

A sanitary and epidemiological conclusion is a document confirming the safety of products and allowing their import and sale.
