Kyrgyzstan will conduct a national STEPS survey on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Press center of the Ministry of Health reported.
According to it, four groups of NCDs (cardiovascular, oncological, respiratory diseases and diabetes) are the main cause of disability and cause 80 percent of all cases of premature death of the population in the country.
The ministry added that a similar trend is observed throughout the world.
The main causes are behavioral risk factors such as smoking, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity and excessive alcohol consumption.
The STEPS survey is aimed at studying the prevalence and monitoring of trends in risk factors for noncommunicable diseases in order to plan program activities and policies to reduce them in the country.
The national survey will cover 2,800 people from 18 to 69 years old.
It will consist of three stages:
- Survey of participants to assess behavioral risk factors associated with NCDs;
- Carrying out anthropometric measurements, indicators of the cardiovascular system;
- Measurement of biochemical parameters of blood.
The survey will be conducted by a team of interviewers who will visit households to interview participants, measure their height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure and heart rate, as well as take rapid blood glucose and lipid tests.
The ministry urges citizens to contribute to the health care in the country and take part in this survey.
