The Bishkek City Hall will switch all boiler houses to gas this year. Mayor of Bishkek Emilbek Abdykadyrov announced at a press conference.
According to him, 22 boiler houses are working on coal now.
«We planned to switch 3-4 boiler houses to gas anually, but this issue cannot be delayed, for this reason we will switch all of them to gas as soon as the heating season ends,» he said.
The mayor blamed burning of coal for the smog. The City Hall proposes to impose a restriction on the import of Kara-Keche coal, which gives a high ash content, and to provide the market with Kazakh coal.
Emilbek Abdykadyrov added that 22 housing estates have no gas, four of them will be provided with gas this year.
In addition, the City Hall proposes to return the mandatory technical inspection of cars, and make it free of charge. According to the head of the City Hall, taxi services and other vehicles must undergo technical inspection for safety purposes.
According to the mayor, a total of 23 proposals have been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers to address the problem of smog in Bishkek.
