Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with journalist Dmitry Kiselev on Russia-24 TV channel that Moscow did not turn to partners in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for assistance in conducting the so-called special military operation in Ukraine and does not plan to do so. TASS quoted the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying.
The Foreign Minister noted that the CSTO charter contains an article on the use of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces at the request of one of the participants who was subjected to aggression. Such a mechanism was activated during the externally inspired surge of violence in Kazakhstan in January 2022.
Then the peacekeeping contingent was deployed within a day. However, according to Sergei Lavrov, there is no need for this now.
«We have not turned to anyone with such a request. We proceed from the fact that we have everything necessary to solve the tasks of the special military operation. We will resolve all issues ourselves,» he said.
The Russian Foreign Minister added that he saw no prerequisites for the need to involve the CSTO forces in the Ukrainian conflict. «We do not see the need in terms of the equipping of our Armed Forces and how they work in the special military operation area,» he said.
