A Council for Affairs of People with Disabilities has been created in Bishkek. Press service of City Hall of the capital reported.
According to it, the first meeting of the Council took place under the chairmanship of the Vice Mayor Victoria Mozgacheva.
The meeting was attended by deputies of the Bishkek City Council, heads of structural and territorial divisions of the City Hall and representatives of public organizations in the field of protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
The participants were told about the implementation of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Rights and Guarantees of Persons with Disabilities.
The Vice Mayor noted that that the number of people with disabilities has increased by 10 percent in the city over the past five years. The main problems they face are access to quality education and medical services, provision of appropriate infrastructure, provision of a quota for employment.
The meeting participants got acquainted with the information on the implementation of the minutes of the meeting of the Council for People with Disabilities’ Affairs under the Cabinet of Ministers in terms of ensuring access for persons with disabilities to the lifts of underground passages and the organization of buses adapted for persons with disabilities.
The director of the Department of Transport informed that the new buses that arrived in the capital were fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
Victoria Mozgacheva instructed to hold a working meeting on the commissioning of underground passage lifts.
