Geographic indications will be protected by copyright in Kyrgyzstan. Rakhat Kerimbaeva, director of Kyrgyzpatent, announced at a meeting of Parliament.
A corresponding change is being made to the law on copyright and related rights.
«This rule does not apply to all geographical names, but only to indications associated with any locality. For example, Uzgen rice, At-Bashi honey and Batken apricot,» Rakhat Kerimbayeva said.
