Akylbek Japarov inspects operation of Toktogul HPP

During a working trip to the regions, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan got acquainted with the general condition and operation of the units of the Toktogul hydroelectric power plant (HPP). Press service of the Cabinet reported.

Akylbek Japarov noted that the issue of ensuring the country’s energy security was one of the government’s priorities. «A project is being implemented to modernize the Toktogul HPP, within the framework of which a new, fourth hydroelectric unit of the power plant has been installed, which has worked for some time in a test mode. The unit is being put into production use now,» he said.

The Chairman of the Cabinet also got acquainted with the construction project of the Karakul hydroelectric power station, the cost of which is about $25 million.

«The capacity of the hydroelectric power plant will be 18 megawatts. Construction and commissioning of this facility will contribute to the development of green energy and ensure the uninterrupted supply of electricity to citizens and enterprises of the republic. For its part, the state will provide comprehensive support to investors providing funds for the construction of hydroelectric power stations,» he added.

The official also got acquainted with the progress of construction work at Bala-Saruu hydroelectric power station in Manas district of Talas region. The project involves construction of a facility with three generators with a total capacity of 25 megawatts, with an average annual electricity generation of 92 million kilowatt-hours. At the same time, the mechanical equipment of the Kirov reservoir dam will be modernized and all processes of water supply for irrigation needs will be automated.

Earlier, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, Chakan HPP JSC was granted the right to build this hydropower facility and allocated a budget loan of 2 billion soms.
