About 1.6 million out of 9 million hectares of pastures are overgrown with weeds in Kyrgyzstan. Maksatbek Mamytbekov, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock and Pastures of the Ministry of Agriculture, announced at a press conference in Bishkek.
«Natural pastures have been and will be the largest and cheapest sources of fodder, but due to the annual excessive load, adoption of insufficient measures to improve the state of pastures, their productivity decreases from year to year, and degradation increases,» he said.
According to the official, to improve the situation, the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Livestock and Pastures purchased 1 ton of pasture seeds from Russia. They were planted on 54 hectares. The ministry issued an order on the establishment of an interdepartmental working group, which develops and amends regulatory legal acts to conduct comprehensive scientific research. Experts determine the best way to control the weed «altygana-сaragana», which significantly affects the pastures in Suusamyr valley.
An action plan has been developed to combat the Caragana shrubs for 2022-2023.
