French company gets interested in construction of Kambarata HPP-1

French company EDF is interested in the construction of Kambarata hydropower plant 1. Deputy Minister of Energy, Sabyrbek Sultanbekov, announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy complex, subsoil use and industrial policy.

According to him, the company has made good proposals.

«If we build and launch Kambarata HPP-1, then we will immediately solve all our problems in the energy sector,» the official said.

It should be noted that in 2017, during his first visit to Bishkek, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed Tashkent’s desire to participate in the construction of Kambar-Ata-1. Last year, in Uzbekistan, the parties again raised the issue of joint operation of hydropower facilities.

Earlier, ex-Minister of Energy Doskul Bekmurzaev said that negotiations were underway not only with Uzbekistan, but also with Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan and China on the construction of Kambar-Ata-1.

Kambarata HPP-1 will be the largest power facility of the entire Kambarata HPP cascade. The project provides for the construction of a rockfill dam 256 meters high and the station itself with an installed capacity of 1,860 megawatts. The average long-term electricity generation at the Kambarata HPP-1 will be 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours with a total reservoir capacity of 5.4 billion cubic meters of water.

Construction time is from eight to ten years. Commissioning of the first hydroelectric power plant is planned in four years, subject to the availability of permanent funding.
