Residents of seven villages in Batken region left their homes because of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. The Ministry of Emergency Situations informed 24.kg news agency.
Some citizens were evacuated by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, some left their homes on their own.
Residents of Ak-Sai, Ak-Tatyr, Samarkandek villages of Batken district are accommodated in Ravat village. At least 80 percent of the residents of Arka, Dostuk, Borborduk, Zhashtyk of Zhany-Zher rural area reportedly left dangerous areas by their cars.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to transport people to safe places. Temporary accommodation facilities have been set up.
Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. According to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, at about 6 a.m. the Tajik side started firing at the border detachments and positions of the Kyrgyz side. Later, the Tajik side began mortar shelling of border outposts and border villages in Leilek and Batken districts. Eighteen victims were taken to the Batken Regional Hospital. Shooting continues for the third day. Previously, five people were injured, three of whom are civilians.
