Diesel fuel shortage registered in Kazakhstan

Shortage of diesel fuel is registered in Kazakhstan. Kazakh media report.

The country introduced differentiated fuel prices. They depend on the volume of purchased diesel fuel and citizenship. From August 22, 2022, car owners, upon presentation of a driver’s license registered in Kazakhstan, can purchase not more than 100 liters of diesel fuel at a price from 230 to 260 tenge (39-45 soms) per liter, depending on the region.

The same price for diesel, but with a limit of 300 liters, is also set for Kazakhstani -owners of heavy vehicles, buses and special equipment. They are offered to purchase the missing volumes of fuel at the so-called «free price» of 450 tenge (78 soms). The same price for diesel fuel is set for citizens of other countries.

The document was adopted in order to avoid a shortage of diesel fuel before harvesting.

In fact, it has become extremely difficult to buy fuel in the country. Drivers are forced to look for gas stations where they can buy at least 20-30 liters of fuel and lubricants. Workers of gas stations say that supplies are unstable, so the fuel is sold on coupons.

Kazakh refineries produce about half a million tons of diesel fuel per year, while its consumption is much higher. The peak of the deficit, according to experts, will be in September, when the Atyrau refinery will be closed for scheduled repairs.

The price of diesel fuel is also growing in Kyrgyzstan. Since the beginning of August, it has risen by 5.2 soms.
