Bishkek schools lack more than 25,000 places for students

There is a shortage of about 25,000-27,000 student places in Bishkek schools. Vice Mayor of Bishkek Victoria Mozgacheva announced at a briefing.

She reminded that there are 97 municipal schools in the capital. «Their total capacity is 75,000 children in one shift, and 150,000 in two shifts. In fact, about 177,000 children attend them. The shortage is 25,000-27,000 places on average,» the Vice Mayor said.

She added that 15 educational institutions are currently being built: both new schools and additional buildings to existing ones. The work must be completed by September 15; teachers are being recruited. It is planned to open some schools by the beginning of the new school year — September 1.

«In addition, there are both overcrowded schools and those that work only in one shift in the capital, there is a shortage of students. We are working to improve the level and quality of education in all schools so that children go to educational institutions in their micro district, and not go to the other end of the city,» Victoria Mozgacheva added.
