Kyrgyzstan supports "One China" policy: MFA commentary on Taiwan

Kyrgyzstan is closely following the developments around Taiwan, expressing hope for the soonest easing of tension and achievement of sustainable peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait to prevent an escalation of the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan stated.

«The Kyrgyz Republic confirms the invariability of its position on the «Taiwan issue» and support for the «One China» policy, set out in all fundamental Kyrgyz-Chinese documents,» the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi flew to Taiwan on August 2. This visit was not announced.

Reports said that the delegation of the U.S. Congress arrived in Taiwan to «make it clear that Washington will not abandon its commitment to supporting the island.» Nancy Pelosi voiced the reason for the visit during a meeting with the head of Taiwan’s administration Tsai Ing-wen.

The Foreign Ministry of China said that the country would definitely take all possible countermeasures in connection with the visit of Pelosi, and the U.S. ambassador was warned of the consequences of rash statements on Taiwan.

Beijing strongly protested and condemned the move, saying that this seriously violated the «One China» policy and the provisions of the Sino-US communiqué, and urged the United States not to play the «Taiwan card» to control the PRC.
