Aida Kasymalieva, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN in New York, asked China for external debt relief for Kyrgyzstan. The Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The Permanent Representative took part in the online meeting of the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative, held by the Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the UN.
The Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and the UN Secretary-General António Guterres participated in the welcoming part of the meeting.
The event was also attended by heads of missions of UN member states and representatives of international organizations such as the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, UNDP, UN FAO, UN Environment Programme.
Aida Kasymalieva supported the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the Global Development Initiative, which was announced in his speech at the General Debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. In this regard, the Kyrgyz side joined the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative.
The Permanent Representative suggested within the framework of this initiative to consider the issues of external debt relief in exchange for sustainable development projects, creation of jobs, access to modern green and affordable energy services in developing countries and development of digitalization.
