A citizen who tried to take more than 100 Kyrgyz passports to Turkey was detained. Azattyk reports, citing the Minister of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan Talant Imanov.
According to the official, an inventory is conducted in the offices of the Department of Registration of Population and Civil Status Acts. Inspection in Uzgen district revealed a shortage of 1,200 passports, which are to be disposed of.
Talant Imanov noted that the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) detained seven people in this case, including former employees of the passport system.
«We issue 50,000-60,000 passports to citizens every month and 500,000-600,000 per year. It became necessary to change the old system, under which a citizen received a passport, saying that he or she lost the old one. There were facts of sale of passports written off due to their loss. Investigation is underway. There are a lot of people behind such facts,» the official said.
The SCNS press center is not yet available for comment.
