The number of refugees who have left Ukraine exceeded 5 million. Website of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees reports.
Most of them, more than 2.8 million, have left for Poland. At least 757,000 went to Romania, Russia — 549,000, Hungary — 471,000, Moldova — 426,000, Slovakia — 342,000, Belarus — 23,400.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees notes that 4,934,415 people have crossed the border of Ukraine with neighboring countries since February 24.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi suggested that another three million would leave in the coming days. He said a third of Ukraine’s 40 million population «is desperate because of the effects of the war.»
«The most striking is how such a situation has been created in just two weeks,» the High Commissioner added, noting that «this migration crisis is the most serious» since the World War II.
The situation in Ukraine remains difficult. Fighting continues. Russia announced a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many states have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions against Russia. According to the latest UN data, more than 4.5 million citizens have left Ukraine.
