UNDP will work to improve human rights standards in 17 countries, including Kyrgyzstan. The organization reported.
The initiative will allow governments and companies to better understand and fulfill their responsibilities and obligations to prevent abuses such as forced labor, land seizure and discrimination.
«Both protection of the right to do business and ensuring responsible business behavior and preventing human rights abuses in the course of business activities are important to us as the constitutionally mandated human rights watchdog,» Ombudsman Atyr Abdrakhmatova said.
The project will guide companies in conducting human rights inspections to assess, prevent and mitigate negative impacts. UNDP will work with governments to create a level playing field that will motivate more companies to adopt responsible business practices.
