Russia and Ukraine have completed another round of talks in a face-to-face format, which were held in Istanbul. TASS reports.
The head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky said that the talks were constructive. He said Russia was making two steps towards Ukraine for de-escalation.
«We received proposals from Ukraine for consideration, their clearly formulated position on inclusion in the agreement. These proposals will be considered in the near future and will be presented to the president. Our corresponding response will be given,» he noted.
Under the condition of quick work on the agreement and finding a compromise, the possibility of making peace will become closer, Medinsky summed up.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, a member of the Ukrainian delegation David Arahamia announced a new system of security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to him, proposals on an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine have been submitted to Russia. This should be an international treaty to be signed by all security guarantors.
The Ukrainian delegation proposes to decide the fate of the territories of eastern Ukraine within direct negotiations between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.
«These issues are included in a separate paragraph, which will be discussed within the framework of negotiations between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia,» Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said.
The Ukrainian delegation also proposes to record that bilateral negotiations on the status of Crimea and Sevastopol will be held within 15 years. At this time, the troops will not be used to resolve the issue.
Situation in Ukraine remains complicated. Fighting continues. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many states have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions on Russia.
