The secretariat of the UN Forum on Forests and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs were among the initiators. The event was organized on the occasion of the International Day of Forests on the subject «Sustaining forests for our greener future.»
According to Aida Kasymalieva, about 90 percent of forests in Kyrgyzstan are located at an altitude of 700 to 3,500 meters above sea level, and their total area is more than 5 percent of the country’s territory.
The Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN also stressed that forests play an extremely important role in maintaining environmental well-being. She noted that Kyrgyzstan has adopted a concept for the development of the forest industry until 2040, the goal of which is sustainable forest management to ensure social well-being and environmental security.
The forum participants watched a video about the national program «Jashyl Muras», within the framework of which it is planned to plant 5-6 million seedlings in the republic annually.
