Russia’s Roskomnadzor, communications watchdog, has restricted access to the BBC’s main news website. RIA Novosti reports, citing the universal service of the agency.
«The address of BBC News Russian Service website is available in Roskomnadzor’s universal service. At the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Roskomnadzor has restricted access to its website. The universal service draws attention to the fact that the presence of the website in the register does not mean a complete restriction of access to it, as it can be limited to a separate page of the website on the Internet. The method of blocking is reflected in the «Access Restriction» column,» the statement says.
Earlier, the British Broadcasting Corporation announced that it was temporarily suspending its work in Russia due to the toughening of the Russian legislation. The news service in Russian continued to operate from outside the country.
