Early presidential elections have ended in Turkmenistan. Website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the country reports.
Nine candidates competed in the elections. The son of former head of state Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, won a majority of votes — 72.97 percent.
«In accordance with the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan and on the basis of a resolution of the Central Election Commission, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdymukhamedov was recognized as the elected president,» the CEC website says.
The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov announced his intention to resign in February 2022.
