Disney pauses theatrical movie releases in Russia

The Walt Disney Company said on Monday that it was «pausing» the release of films in Russia amid Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. Prime media outlet reports.

«Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming «Turning Red» from Pixar. We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation,» Disney said in a statement.

The company added that, together with partners, it is also providing necessary humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.

Today is the sixth day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion. Severe economic sanctions began to be imposed on Russia on February 25.

The number of casualties, both among military personnel of both countries and civilians, is increasing. The number of Ukrainian refugees fleeing to Europe is growing. Protests against Russia’s actions are taking place in many countries around the world.
