South Korea has decided to join international sanctions and ban exports of strategic materials to Russia due to the situation in Ukraine, the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
«As sanctions against Russia, our government bans exports of strategic materials to Russia, strengthening export verification procedures. As for the export control of non-strategic materials, including 57 items that fall under US sanctions, including semiconductors, computers, sensors, communications, aviation and space industries and others, relevant South Korean agencies will consider possible restrictions and expand sanctions against Russia in the future,» the statement says.
South Korea reportedly notified the U.S. of its decision through diplomatic channels.
Today is the fifth day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion. Harsh economic sanctions began to be imposed on Russia on February 25.
The number of casualties, both among military personnel of both countries and civilians, is increasing. The number of Ukrainian refugees fleeing to Europe is growing. Protests against Russia’s actions are taking place in many countries around the world.
