China believes that the sanctions policy cannot contribute to the solution of the Ukrainian problem, and opposes such an approach. Interfax reports with reference to the Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi.
«Wang Yi said that China is against the use of sanctions to solve the Ukrainian problem, and even more so against unilateral sanctions that do not comply with international law,» the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement about the minister’s conversation with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.
According to Wang Yi, «the practice has long proved that sanctions not only cannot solve the problem, but will also create new problems, hindering the political settlement process.»
Beijing believes that the UN Security Council «when making decisions, should take steps that will contribute to the political settlement of the crisis, and not encourage confrontation and contradictions,» therefore, when discussing the Ukrainian issue at a session of the UN Security Council, the country «opposed statements about the use of force and sanctions.»
Wang Yi also said that in matters of European security, the reasonable concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and «Russia’s legitimate demands in the field of NATO expansion to the East and in the field of security must be met.»
