Kyrgyzstan to start construction of several small hydropower plants in April

Kyrgyzstan will begin construction of several small hydropower plants in April. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov announced at a press conference.

He noted that the energy industry gives the country a huge export potential. «During this year, we realized what kind of wealth we have in our hands,» Akylbek Japarov said.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers said that the first stage of construction of Kambar-Ata-1 would begin this year.

«We raised $18.8 million for construction of infrastructure. We will start work from April this year. In May next year, we will launch the second unit. The presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kazakhstan Kassym-Joomart Tokayev show interest in the construction of Kambar-Ata-1. Negotiations will determine who will participate in the project and how,» Akylbek Japarov said.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan intends to build several small hydropower plants. «We will build four micro hydropower stations on our own. Balasaruu — at the expense of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, the project is already ready. Heritage of Great Nomads Holding will build Orto-Tokoi, Buruldai, Karakul using Kumtor’s funds,» he said.
