Small hydropower plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 45.9 megawatts have been commissioned in Kyrgyzstan for first nine months of 2024.
An extraordinary board meeting of the Ministry of Energy was held on October 18, at which the results of work for the first nine months of 2024 were summed up. The meeting was attended by the chief expert of the presidential administration Ulugbek Nurgaziev, the Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev, his deputies and heads of subordinate companies.
First Deputy Minister Kursantbek Omurbekov presented a report on the work done, problems in the industry and plans for the future.
He reported that capsules have also been laid for the construction of two small HPPs, one solar and one wind power plant. Solar power plants with a total capacity of 430 kilowatts are currently operating.
The ministry added that work continues to modernize large hydropower plants. In particular, the reconstruction of the first generator at Toktogul HPP and the fourth generator at the Uch-Korgon HPP will be completed by the end of 2024. The capacity of Toktogul HPP generator will increase to 60 megawatts, and Uch-Korgon — to 9 megawatts. At the moment, the reconstruction of Toktogul HPP has been completed at 95 megawatts, and Uch-Korgon — at 65 megawatts.
