Status of Batken: Cabinet promises to expand preferential villages list

The list of preferential border settlements will be expanded in stages. Only 62 villages are included in it now. The First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Arzybek Kozhoshev announced at the meeting on the implementation of the law on the status of Batken region.

He noted that not all border villages of the region were included in the list as there are special conditions for their inclusion.

«This is a requirement of the law; all three conditions must be met. We want to reconsider this decision and already at the second stage to include other villages in need of preferences in the list. But there are villages in Batken region, where the socio-economic indicators are much higher, no preferences are provided for them, but there will be other economic incentive mechanisms. Our main goal is to strengthen those villages which are located near the border and really need help from the state. We will not be able to do everything at once, especially since the situation is not good for 12 years of the region’s existence. The most important thing is that the ice has broken — the work has begun,» Arzybek Kozhoshev said.

He also told to which border villages the Cabinet of Ministers intends to attract investments.

«It is not a secret for anyone that it is extremely difficult to attract investments to the villages where border conflicts occur. They will be attracted based on a different principle. In this regard, the special status of Batken region implies attracting investments precisely to those villages that are not in the border zones. For example, they will be attracted to Kadamdzhai and Kyzyl-Kiya, while 62 villages will have tax, land preferences and other types of state support. We need a comprehensive and flexible approach here,» the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
