COVID-19: Kyrgyzstan is in green zone

The next peak of coronavirus infection has been passed, the whole Kyrgyzstan is in the green zone. Dinara Otorbaeva, head of the Epidemiology Directorate of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Prevention Department, told 24.kg news agency.

According to her, there has been a decrease in the incidence over the last week. At least 60-70 percent of all registered cases are mild, asymptomatic form.

It is worth noting that previously Kyrgyzstanis were advised not to take PCR tests, so some citizens have doubts about the objectivity of official statistics.

Dinara Otorbaeva emphasized that the data are objective and reflect the real situation. «Every week, those who are sick or have doubts take PCR tests. Those who seek medical care are also tested. Mobile teams visit if they get requests. Last week, only 8.7 percent of 25,500 PCR tests were positive for COVID-19. But registration goes on clinically and epidemiologically, too. To date, 160 out of 202 cases have been confirmed laboratory, the remaining 42 — clinically and epidemiologically,» she specified.

The head of Epidemiology Directorate reminded that the fourth wave was caused by a new strain of coronavirus Omicron. It peaked in January 2022.

We conducted an analysis. Even though we are talking about an increase in the incidence and the fourth wave, it was 2.7 times lower compared to the last peak in July 2021.

«Many people note a mild course of the disease. There are some severe cases, of course, but they cannot be compared to the previous surges. People take control of their health and seek medical help, because they know that late treatment is fraught with a severe course of the disease. As for a forecast, we don’t have one. Even the World Health Organization refrains from forecasting. We don’t know how the coronavirus infection will behave further. We hope for the best,» she concluded.

At least 202 cases of COVID-19 and community-acquired pneumonia were registered in the Kyrgyz Republic for the last 24 hours, four people died.
