Situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border is stable

The Information and Communications Department of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reports that as of the morning of January 29, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as stable.

As a result of the meeting of the delegations of the parties, which took place the day before, on January 28, the work of the joint commissions of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan is scheduled for today.

The Kyrgyz side has already completed the withdrawal of additional forces from the border line to their permanent deployment points.

Border units are on duty as usual. The Border Service of the SCNS monitors the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.

On January 27 at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of ​ Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
