Border conflict: More than 11,000 people evacuated from Batken region

At least 11,052 people have been evacuated as a result of another conflict at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.

It is specified that 10,410 people out of them are now in safe areas, 642 people have been accommodated in temporary shelters. About 6,000 people from Batken district are temporarily placed in Ravat village.

«As for Leilek district, 400 people from Maksat village were transported to Margun settlement, about 1,000 residents of International village are in Kairagach village now. In addition, residents of Murza-Patcha, Sada, Ak-Aryk and Iskhak Razakov villages were evacuated. They are in Isfana and Sulukta towns now. About 1,000 more residents of Samarkandek and Ak-Tatyr villages were transported to Leilek, Kara-Suu, Ak-Terek. At the moment all the evacuated people are being examined by doctors and they are provided with everything they need,» the ministry reported.

The day before, at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of ​ Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
