Relatives of detained head of Customs Service hold rally in Bishkek

A measure of restraint for the head of the Customs Service of Kyrgzystan Adilet Kubanychbekov, who was detained on suspicion of corruption, will be chosen today in the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.

About 50 supporters and relatives of the customs officer held a rally outside the court building.

The protesters demanded release of the official, who «stopped the smugglers and corrupt officials» and appealed to the President Sadyr Japarov with a request to take the case under his personal control.

The Chairman of the Customs Service Adilet Kubanychbekov was detained on January 17. According to investigators, he lobbied for the interests of private companies involved in the import of goods. In addition, it is noted that illegal schemes for hiding goods from the customs administration have been used at the customs.
