Activists oppose construction of Asman city in Issyk-Kul region

Activists, lawyers, ecologists and architects gathered in Bishkek to discuss demand for the Cabinet of Ministers to abandon the project on construction Asman city in the Issyk-Kul biosphere zone.

An activist Ryspek Baizakov believes that construction of the city in Issyk-Kul region is a big mistake.

«Unfortunately, the population of Kyrgyzstan is divided into two groups — business and civil society. Everyone has their own problem. The civil society thinks how to earn money to feed the children, the business — where to put the stolen money. Asman will be built at the expense of the stolen funds, this is a very convenient way to hide the money. According to the documents, all the work is executed in the form of equity participation, but in reality it is not. Let’s imagine that one of us is a shareholder in Asman construction, my money will not be used to carry out work, it will go into pocket. A city is not just a bunch of multi-storey buildings, but an infrastructure with its own factories and thermal power plants. It will be a collapse for the entire Issyk-Kul. If we want to develop tourism, we need to develop a strategy, not Asman,» he said.

Activists also signed a petition demanding to abandon the project.

Earlier, a former presidential adviser, now a deputy of the Parliament, Ravshan Sabirov, said that a French construction company would build Asman city, but its name is unknown.
