Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas will visit Kazakhstan on January 11-13 in the framework of a working visit. He announced it during an extraordinary summit of the organization on Monday.
The CSTO Secretary General intends to study the situation on the spot. He is going to meet with the highest political and military leadership of Kazakhstan and with the command of the organization’s collective peacekeeping forces.
«Meetings with the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Deputy Prime Minister — Acting Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Assistant to the Head of State — Secretary of the Security Council Aset Isekeshev and the First Deputy Defense Minister — Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Marat Khusainov are planned during the trip,» the CSTO secretariat noted.
In Almaty Stanislav Zas will meet with the commander of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces Andrey Serdyukov, to get acquainted with the situation in the megalopolis, to visit the command center and the deployment points of the peacekeeping forces. It is planned that during the meetings they will discuss the situation in Kazakhstan and measures to normalize it.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.
President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.
