Akylbek Japarov fears movement of terrorists from Kazakhstan to other countries

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov spoke today at an extraordinary session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

According to him, there is a risk of movement of terrorists who participated in the riots in Kazakhstan across the borders within the CSTO. Akylbek Japarov added that videos about citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic allegedly involved in the riots have recently appeared on the Internet.

He stressed that he hoped for fair investigation into each confirmed case.

The head of the Cabinet added that the investigation should be carried out within the framework of the legislation of Kazakhstan, but in strict accordance with bilateral and multilateral agreements.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.

An extraordinary session of the heads of the CSTO member states is held today.
