Situation in Kazakhstan: Kyrgyzstani killed during riots in Almaty

A citizen of Kyrgyzstan was killed in Almaty during the riots. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan Dastan Dyushekeev confirmed the information.

According to him, the man worked as a fitness trainer in the city. The diplomatic mission is clarifying the circumstances of the incident, and the issue of delivery of the body of the deceased to Kyrgyzstan is also being considered.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.

An extraordinary session of the heads of the CSTO member states is held today.
