President of Belarus: It is necessary to strengthen the CSTO

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at the extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which is being chaired by Armenia, that there are too many people who want to exacerbate the situation around the Central Asian countries.

According to him, many international terrorists have accumulated at the borders. «It is impossible to solve this problem within the framework of Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan must solve joint problems. Lessons must be learned by Uzbekistan. If not, then, according to our information, they are looking at Uzbekistan,» Alexander Lukashenko said.

He added that one should not blame the external factor only. At the same time, he emphasized that there was exactly external interference in Minsk, these traces are not yet very clearly visible in Kazakhstan.

The head of Belarus said that it is necessary to strengthen the CSTO and there is no need to be ashamed, looking back at the West, America and some other states.

If we screw our head round, we will break our neck.

He noted that it is necessary to act proactively, including in the information field. «You cannot present the CSTO peacekeeping forces as occupiers. We didn’t come there by our own will. We were invited by our friend, our brother. This is a lesson for everyone. This is a good precedent,» the leader of Belarus said, but noted that a revision of joint measures to counter terrorism and extremism is needed.

This is a good reason to talk about Tajikistan. Their president has been asking us for a long time to help them with equipment.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.

An extraordinary session of the heads of the CSTO member states is held today.
