President of Kazakhstan promises to provide proof of terrorist attack

There are 2,030 people and 250 pieces of equipment in Kazakhstan within the framework of the CSTO peacekeeping mission. President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated today at an extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which is being held online under the chairmanship of Armenia.

According to the head of Kazakhstan, questions arise about the legitimacy of deployment of the CSTO forces, but this is due to a lack of understanding of the situation. «In the near future, we will present the world community with proof of organization of a terrorist attack on the republic,» he said.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called the events in Kazakhstan an Almaty tragedy.

«A large-scale anti-terrorist operation will be completed in the near future. About 8,000 people were taken to the police stations, 116 weapons were seized,» he stressed.

The President noted: the constitutional order in the country has been restored, threats to security have been prevented.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2,2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.

An extraordinary session of the heads of the CSTO member states is held today.
