The organizers of the riots used peaceful rallies as a pretext. As if at a single command, religious radicals, notorious bandits, marauders and petty hooligans appeared. It was a real terrorist war against our state. I speak with confidence about the direct participation of terrorists, including foreign mercenaries. They attacked morgues at night and took away the bodies of the killed militants,» the head of Kazakhstan said.
Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev called the events in Kazakhstan an attempted coup d’etat, and the main goal of the terrorists was to seize power.

The situation is slowly stabilizing; the anti-terrorist operation continues. Internet access has been restored.
