Leaders of CSTO countries to hold online meeting

The leaders of the CSTO countries will hold an online summit. The Kremlin’s press service reports.

The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reportedly held telephone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

«The head of Kazakhstan informed about the current situation in the country, noting that it is developing towards stabilization. According to him, a joint conversation between the leaders of the CSTO member states is needed. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev came up with an initiative to hold a video conference of the CSTO Collective Security Council under the chairmanship of Armenia in the coming days. Vladimir Putin supported this proposal,» the Kremlin’s press service said.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in the early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
