Situation in Kazakhstan: January 10 declared Day of Mourning

January 10 was declared the Day of National Mourning in Kazakhstan. Local media report.

Such a decision was made by the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in connection with numerous human casualties as a result of tragic events in a number of regions.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in the early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. The situation is slowly stabilizing. Internet access has been restored.

President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
