Situation in Kazakhstan: Liquefied gas sellers suspected of price collusion

The Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of Kazakhstan has launched an investigation against the entrepreneurs specializing in the retail sale of liquefied petroleum gas.

It is reported that the checks so far concern 180 sellers of liquefied gas in Mangistau, Karaganda, Atyrau, Akmola, Kyzylorda, Kostanai, Turkestan, Zhambyl and Almaty regions, as well as in Nur-Sultan and Shymkent.

The state agency suspects the sellers of liquefied gas of collusion in setting prices.

According to officials, it was established, for example, that with an increase in the price of gas in April through electronic trading by 1.6 percent, business entities increased the price by 5.3 percent.

The sharp increase in price of liquefied petroleum gas became one of the reasons for the mass protests in Kazakhstan.
