State of emergency to be gradually lifted in Kazakhstan

The state of emergency will be gradually lifted in regions where stable situation is observed. The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said today.

He thanked the citizens who remained calm and rallied peacefully. He noted that all the demands expressed peacefully were heard, a compromise was found.

The leader of Kazakhstan recalled that the counter-terrorist operation continues in a number of regions of the country. The security forces will act tough to stabilize the situation. The forces of law and order are morally and technically ready to carry out the assigned tasks.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also thanked the CSTO for their support.

«Kazakhstan asked the CSTO to provide assistance and send contingent. They arrived in the republic for a short time to carry out the functions of protection and support. I thank the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Presidents of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan for the support provided. I would like to express my special gratitude to the leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin. He quickly and in a comradely way warmly reacted to the appeal of the CSTO chairman. I thank the presidents of Uzbekistan, China, Turkey, representatives of the UN and other international organizations for their words of support in this difficult period,» he concluded.

Mass protests in Kazakhstan began in early 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other cities. Clashes with security officials continue in Almaty. The Internet is periodically turned off throughout the country, the media practically do not work.

The President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan.
